National Parks in Madhya Pradesh

Kanha National Park:

The craze and romance of Kanha National Park has become even more beautiful. The picturesque beauty, located at Malda district of MP, Kanha National Park extends over an area of over 1,940 sq. km. One could easily reach Kanha National Park from its nearest airport and railway station of Jabalpur. Kanha represents one rare found animal species i.e. swamped deer, also known as Barasinghas, and homes to other varied categories of animal and bird species.

As the climate of this region is tropical, the best time to visit Kanha National Park is anytime from November to June. It remains closed during the monsoon from July to mid-October.

Bandhavgarh National Park:

Situated at the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh in the Vindhya Hills, Bandhavgarh National Park is one of the most popular national parks in MP. It spreads across the area of over 105 sq. km., and is being famed to grip the high density of tiger population in India. The Bandhavgarh national park is divided into three major zones, Tala, Magda and Bamera which offers varied sighting opportunities of different animal and birds’ species. The park has large number of tourist attraction from across the world for sighting the rare animal species like sloath bear, leopard etc.

The nearest airport to reach park is Khajuraho, and the nearest railway station is of Umaria, from where Bandhavgarh national park is just about 40 minutes’ drive. As the park remains closed during monsoon, the best time to visit is from February to June.

Van Vihar National Park:

The Van Vihar National Park is the most beloved tourist attraction in Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh. The park homes varied rare animal species, 60 species of butterfly, 207 species of birds and several other species of Tortoise and many more. The Van Vihar National Park received the recognition of a National Park in 1983 and spread over an area of 455.21 hectares of land. The Van Vihar National Park runs with guidelines and instructions of Central Zoo Authority for the proper care of the animals. Most of the carnivores’ animals are enclosed in cages in the park on the safety purposes for daily commuters and tourists.

One could easily reach Van Vihar National Park through its nearest Bairagarh railway station, which is near to Shymala Hills in  Bhopal. The entry fee is very nominal. The visiting hours of park are 7.00 a.m to 7 P.M and the best time to visit the park is from July to September.

Satpura National Park:

If you want yourself to be in beautiful terrains and enjoy the “wildlife voyage”, amid deep gorges and rivulets, away from the crowded wildlife sanctuaries then Satpura National Park is the right place for you. It has got nurtured in Satpura Ranges of Honshangabad district in Madhya Pradesh, and covers an area of over 524 sq. km. with scenic beauty. What makes it different from other wildlife sanctuaries and national parks in MP are that here one can do jeep safari, elephant safari, walking safari and boat safari.

One could easily reach by flight to its nearest airport of Bhopal and then take drive of few kilometers to reach Satpura National Park in Hoshangabad district. The best time to visit this place is from February to June.

Panna National Park:

Situated at a distance of around 57 km. from Khajuraho in the central Indian state, Panna National Park is famous for the sighting of its remarkable flora and fauna. This park is worldwide known for its wild cats and avifauna. Madhav National Park:

Amid the Vindhyan hills, Madhav National Park is situated on the northern fringe of Central Highlands of India. Madhav National Park is the riveting mix of architectural wonders and natural splendors of history. It spreads across the area of over 355 sq. km. Madhav National Park is one unique park which has beautiful lakes and the fascinating view of natural forests. The Sakshya and Madhav Sagar lakes are the names of two lakes in park. This park embraces northern dry tropical deciduous mixed forests as well as dry thorn forests and homes to antelopes like Nilgai, Chinkara, Chowsingha, which is rare to find. The nearest airport to reach park is of Gwalior, from where Madhav National Park is at 130km. distance. The nearest railhead to Amarkantak is Pendra Road at a distance of 17 km. which could be made by taxi. The best time to visit is November and May.

Sanjay National Park:

Sanjay National Park is another wildlife paradise place where one could enjoy the scenic beauty of place amid mounds hills, steep cliffs, water bodies, valleys and different species. Sanjay National Park is located in Kusumi and Majhauli blocks of the Sindhi district of Madhya Pradesh. The entire park covers an area of about 466.7 sq. km. which also connects Dubri, the wildlife sanctuary with 370 sq. km. Fossil National Park:

Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary:

The Ralamnadal Wildlife Sanctuary is the best place to see a wide variety of flora and fauna in and around the city of Indore in Madhya Pradesh. It is spread across an area of 5 sq. km. This place offers the fascinating views on the road safari to watch fauna and flora species such as leopard, Sambhar, blue bull while in flora- eucalyptus and babul bamboo. Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary:

The Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over 688 sq. km. and is beautiful wildlife and bird watching getaway on the outskirts of Bhopal. Pench Wildlife Sanctuary:

Pench National Park lies in the Seoni and Chindwara district, on the southern boundary of Madhya Pradesh. The Pench National Park is located near the Pench River, which meanders from north to south. It spreads across the area of over 758 sq. km. It has over 1200 species of plants and supports a mosaic of vegetation in the region. Pench Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most known tiger reserves in Madhya Pradesh, and has highest density of herbivores animals in India.

The Pench Wildlife Sanctuary can be accessed through the nearest airport and railway station-Nagpur. The best time to visit is from Feb to May.

Panchmarhi Wildlife Sanctuary:

Panchmarhi Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the premieres in Indian Biosphere Reserves. Panchmarhi was reckoned as biosphere reserve by the central govt. due to its diverse and rich flora & fauna, unique topography and geographic situation and inhabitation of large tribal population in Madhya Pradesh. Panchmarhi is home to numerous species of flora, and is a natural junction of two most important fauna species i.e. Teak and Sal.

The entire forest is divided into three major types like moist deciduous forest, dry deciduous and the sub-tropical hill forest. Best time to visit Panchmarhi is from October to April.

Gandhisagar Wildlife Sanctuary:

This wildlife sanctuary is open throughout the year. Gandhisagar Wildlife Sanctuary offers plentiful of opportunities of sighting a variety of flora and fauna. Gandhisagar Wildlife Sanctuary also has some ancient temples which are worth to visit. This place also has some various kinds of religious and archaeological significances.
