List of National Parks in Gujarat

Gir National Park

Gir National Park is one of the most famous national parks of Gujarat. It was established in 1965 and covers a total area of 1,412 square km. The park is easily accessible via road and railways. It is 43 km away from Somnath and lies at a distance of 65 km from Junagadh. This national park in Gujarat is known to possess 400 different species of plants. The park also contains a wide variety of animals. Gir Forest and national park is primarily famous for protecting the extinct species of lions in India. Vansda National Park

Spread over an area of around 24 square km, Vansda National Park is one of the most visited national parks in Gujarat. It is nestled in the Western Ghats and owns a great variety of flora and fauna. It was established in 1979 as the deciduous forest area and national park in Gujarat. It is located in the Navsari district of Gujarat and rides along the banks of river Ambika. This park is accessible via road and is only 65 km away from Chikhali via National Highway 8. The park offers memorable experience to the visitors throughout the year but spring and rainy seasons are preferred to witness the diversity of flora and fauna.

Marine National Park

Marine National Park is located in the southern shore of the Gulf of Kachchh and belongs to Jamnagar district in Gujarat. It came into existence in 1980 and spreads over an area of around 270 square km. This national park of Gujarat is the first marine park of India and includes 42 islands on the Jamnagar coast. This park consists of a wide variety of flora and fauna including 70 different species of sponges, 10 species of soft coral, 52 species of hard coral, 27 species of prawns, different species of jellyfish, sea anemones, shrimps, lobsters and many others to count.

Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in Gujarat lying in the Narmada district of the Indian state of Gujarat. It covers an area of around 607.70 square km and contains a wide variety of flora and fauna. This wildlife sanctuary of Gujarat is famous for its bamboo trees and owns around 575 different species of flowering plants. It is a moist place possessing semi-evergreen elements of deciduous forest and is considered as one of the densest forests in Gujarat. The months between November to March are the best months to visit this Gujarat wildlife sanctuary.

Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary

Located at a distance of around 64 km from Ahmedabad in Sanand Village, Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary is one of the largest bird sanctuaries in Gujarat. It primarily consists of the ambient marshes and a lake spread over an area of around 120.82 square km. It was declared as bird sanctuary in April 1969 and is mainly inhabited by the migratory birds. Spring and winter seasons are the perfect seasons to visit this amazing bird sanctuary in Gujarat. The lake is known to attract over 210 species of birds, especially during the winter season. Some of the birds that can be seen here during one or the other season are black buck, herons, flamingoes, wild ass, brahminy ducks, rosy pelicans etc.

Wild Ass Sanctuary

Being the largest wildlife sanctuary in India, Wild Ass sanctuary is spread over an area of around 4954 square km. It is located in the Little Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. This wildlife sanctuary in India came into existence in 1972. It consists of varied flora and fauna that can be observed by all the visitors. Spring season is the best season to enjoy your trip to Wild Ass wildlife sanctuary. It is well connected to different parts of Gujarat and is easily accessible via trains and buses.

Blackbuck National Park   

Located in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, Blackbuck national park is amongst the most visited national parks of Gujarat. It has got diversified flora and fauna and is heavily visited by the people round the year.

Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary

Spread over an area of around 6.05 square km, Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary is one of the most beautiful and diversified bird sanctuaries in Gujarat. It is situated in Jamnagar district of Gujarat and has around 300 different species of migratory birds.

Purna Wildlife Sanctuary

Purna Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the mountain range of Western Ghats in Gujarat. This wildlife sanctuary of Gujarat consists of 700 different species of plants and trees along with 116 species of spiders. Other animals in the sanctuary are sambar, four-horned antelope, leopard, common mongoose, barking deer, Indian civet cat and many more to count.

Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary

Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary is located at the border city Rajasthan-Gujarat border – Palanpur. It came into existence in May 1978 and is spread over an area of 69 square km. The main purpose of this sanctuary is to save the Sloth Bear as they are getting extinct day by day. Other fauns in this sanctuary than bear includes leopard, blue, sambhar, wild boar, porcupine etc.

Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in the Kutch district of Gujarat, Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the heavily visited wildlife sanctuaries in Gujarat. In February 1986, it was declared a wildlife sanctuary by Indian government. It is one of the largest saline wetlands, the seasonal one, in India. Different species of water birds and mammalians are the specialty of this sanctuary.

Rampara Wildlife Sanctuary

Rampara Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1988 and is located in the Rajkot district of Gujarat. This wildlife sanctuary of Gujarat is renowned for its wide variety of flora and fauna and includes a large group of mammoth antelopes or ‘Nilgai’ in local Indian language.

Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary

Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary is located in the Kutch district of Gujarat and is renowned to possess 15 threatened wildlife species. It is best to visit this sanctuary in spring or winter season in order to enjoy a lot of diversity possessed by it.

Balaram Ambaji Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in Banaskantha of Gujarat, Balaram Ambaji Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the renowned wildlife sanctuaries of Gujarat. it is spread over an area of 542 square km and is primarily inhabited by Jackals, Bears and Nilgai. The months between October and May are considered as the best months to visit this wildlife sanctuary of Gujarat.

Barda Wildlife Sanctuary

Situated at a distance of approximately 15 km from Porbandar in Gujarat, Barda Wildlife Sanctuary serves as home to multiple species of flora and fauna. It is spread over an area of 282 square km and can be easily accessed by roads or rails.
