Kaziranga National Park

Located in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam, the Kaziranga national park of Assam is world famous for its one-horned rhinoceroses. Apart from these rare rhinos, the 430 sq.km large national park is home to a range of wildlife, flora and fauna. UNESCO has also listed it out as a World Heritage site. November-April period is generally considered to be the best time to visit the rhinos. Tourist activities include guided tours, hiking, birding, wildlife viewing, etc.

The nearest railway station is Furkating which is around 23kms away. The Jorhat airport at Rowriah being the nearest airport is 97kms away. The best advised mode of transport is to arrive at either Jorhat or Guwahati and then take a cab from there.

Manas National Park

Manas National Park is located in the foothills of the Great Himalayas. It is included as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site and is also a Project Tiger Reserve. A lot of rare and endangered species of wildlife such as golden langur, hispid hare, pygmy hog, etc live within this park. The nearest airport is at Guwahati which is about a 5 hours ride, whereas Barpeta Road Railway station is 22kms away. The Manas National park of Assam is best visited during November to April.

Nameri National Park

Located in the Sonitpur district of Assam, the Nameri National park is one of the most beautiful places in the list of national parks in Assam. The speciality of this park is that it is full of rivers. Thus, Nameri River Rafting, Wildlife Trekking and Angling are the major tourist activities. The Tezpur airport which is 37kms away is the nearest airport.

Dibru-Saikhowa National Park

It is located in Tinsukia of Assam. The place is rich in fish diversity and is a home to a lot of endangered species. The rare white-winged wood duck is one among the protected species. The Mohanbari airport, 40km away is the nearest airport. The park can also be reached by rail via trains through Dibrugarh station.

Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary

This wildlife sanctuary in Assam is located 52km from the town of Tezpur. Located at the foothills of the mighty Himalayas, the Sonai Rupai wildlife sanctuary spreads over an area of 175 square kms and has a lot of protected wildlife such as the Russell’s viper, white winged wood duck, etc. November to March experiences a good climate perfect for tourists to visit.

Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary

Famous for the Golden Langur, the Chakrashila Wildlife sanctuary in Assam is located in the Dhubri and Kokrajhar districts. The nearby airport at Guwahati is like 219kms away. Apart from the golden langur, many other protected species such as different mammals, reptiles and birds exist here. About 119 species of birds are said to live here.

Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary

One of the oldest wildlife sanctuaries in Assam, the Garampani Wildlife sanctuary is located in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam. With beautiful hot water springs and waterfalls, the area has diverse flora and fauna with about 51 species of orchid growing here. The nearest airport is Dimapur, which is 55kms away. The best time to visit this beautiful wildlife reserve is from November to April.

Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in the Karbi Anglong district, the Nambor Wildlife sanctuary is one of the smallest wildlife sanctuaries of Assam with just an area of 37 square kms. The area is home to a lot of rare wildlife in Assam state, such as the Assamese Macaque, imperial pigeon, hill myna, etc.

Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary

This wildlife sanctuary is a worth visit sanctuary for all wildlife and nature lovers. It is 15km away from the nearest railway station at Guwahati. It is located in the Kamrup district and a lot of endangered species of mammals, birds and butterflies live here. The ideal time for a visit to the Amchang wildlife sanctuary is from October to April.

Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park

It is located in the Darrang and Sonitpur districts of Assam, in the north bank of the river Brahmaputra. Sometimes the park is also referred to as the mini Kaziranga. The great one-horned rhino, pigmy hog, elephants, wild buffalo, etc are some of the inhabitants of this reserve. The nearest railway station is Saloni which is 41kms away whereas the nearest airport is almost 80kms away. The October to April months are considered to be the best for a visit to this beautiful national park.

Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in the Kamrup district of Assam, it is also known as Dipor Bil Bird Sanctuary. October to March is the best period to take a visit to this sanctuary. The nearby Guwahati airport is almost 15kms away and the Guwahati railway station is 20kms away. The Deepor Beel is actually a permanent freshwater lake with almost 219 species of birds found to inhabit the area.

Marat Longri Wildlife Sanctuary

This amazing wildlife sanctuary of Assam is located in its Karbi Anglong district. A visit to the sanctuary during November to March can prove to be an amazing experience for wildlife lovers. The place can be reached by road, rail and air with the nearest airport and railway station being Dimapur airport and Diphu railway station respectively. Around 240 species of birds and lot of reptiles and mammals exist in the area.

East Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in the Karbi Anglong district, this wildlife sanctuary in Assam is best visited during October to March. There is a beautiful sylvan lake surrounding the reserve. The area is rich in exotic varieties of flora and fauna. Dimarpur airport and Diphu railway station are the nearby transport modes.

Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary

One of the smallest wildlife sanctuary in Assam, this protected area just covers about 7.2 square kms in the Tinsukia district of Assam. It is named after the three separate forests that it includes. Hoolock gibbon, capped langur, slow loris, etc are some of the protected species.

Borail Wildlife Sanctuary
